I just got my first custom mechanical keyboard named GK61 aka “Abysmal Software”. I was lurking around for budget hot-swap options, and the infamous software for this board was the only concern for me. I have not found any comprehensive guide on the configuration and software possibilities (except for the fact that its total trash). I have spent a couple of hours with it and while it is certainly not the best piece of software ever made, it can easily get the things done, so I decided to make this little guide with 1-minute video to show the configurations and steps. You can press the Fn+E buttons to switch to mode 2 and trigger the default functions of the F1, F2, F3…….keys Bought the white version with the yellow switches, the stabilizers come pre-lubed but it’s not the best. Spent some time lubing the switches and the stabs and the keyboard sounds amazing. The software works just fine to make custom RGB lighting and assign different actions to the button, can use arrow keys after assigning other keys such that no functionality is lost. Lastly, it has no wrist rest. This is the one thing that I missed from the k70. I'm definitely a wrist-rest user. The K70 has an included plastic detachable wrist rest. Although nothing special, it allows me to be a bit "lazy" when playing games on an extended session as I can rest my fingers on the wasd keys and that's all. Without the wrist rest, I certainly felt the strain of holding my hands up on the wasd keys. What I 100% missed is the "detachable" aspect of the K70's wrist rest. If you move your keyboard, the wrist-rest moves with it. Unless you glue your wrist rest to your GK71, every adjustment of the keyboard will require a follow up adjustment to the accompany wrist rest which gets very frustrating.
The only thing bad about the product is the RGB software, its basically unusable but the board has a lot of rgb presets that are just fine if you dont want anything really specific. Yes, the GK61 mechanical comes with a very helpful software. However, you should expect to spend some time getting to understand and use this software before you can make anything out of it. As an ideal gaming keyboard, we would have been disappointed if the GK61 didn’t live up to our expectations when it comes to gaming. However, it delivers a great performance overall, and it is a solid option for all avid gamers and enthusiasts. I bought this initially because I was looking for a decent TKL that didn't force you to install bloatware and had to be constantly running for the RGB setting to actually work.
